#SummerOfSlash 2017

With 2017 being the birth year of TBOaH (the website) I thought it would be fun to do a month-long movie challenge. I’m a big fan of the podcast and blog F This Movie!, and Patrick is just wrapping up #Junesploitation. Each day has a theme, and you’re challenged to watch an exploitation film in that category. I love that idea so much (and for the past three years I’ve done #31DaysofHorror in October) so I thought we’d do a similar(ish) mid-year challenge in The Basement.

The slasher sub-genre is rich with classics. The challenge for #SummerOfSlash, though, is that only slasher movies that take place in the summer will work. Sure, you have your Friday the 13th series, and you could easily fill out eight days with Jason (I have two of them on the schedule), but there are so many other summer-based slashers out there – some well-known, some not – that would be fun discoveries for many of our readers (and me; there are six movies on here that I haven’t seen!). Keeping that in mind, greats like Halloween, Black Christmas, My Bloody Valentine, Maniac Cop, etc. would not work for this challenge.

So here is a list of 31 summer slashers that I’ll be watching. Some are standard faire; some are less conventional. Use my calendar, make your own, add different movies, watch one a week – do whatever you want. I just thought this would be fun to do together! And each day you’ll get a little “primer post” for whatever movie is on the schedule. Remember, have fun with it! Get weird. Be normal. Watch movies. If you do your own #SummerOfSlash, we want to hear about it, too!
